Northern Italy has some of the best riding in the world. Panoramic Lake Garda, just south of the Alps and Dolomites offers a variety of terrain, including flats around the lake, rolling hills in the Valpolicella wine region, and big climbs towards the foothills of the Alps. It’s truly a cyclist’s paradise. This is our home base, and the place where we have been catering to cyclists’ dreams since 2004, through our Garda Bike Hotel. Many of our trips will include several days of cycling at Lake Garda.
ITALIAN ALPS
BORMIO – STELVIO, GAVIA, MORTIROLO, CANCANO LAKE
Bormio is at the heart of the Italian Alps with its iconic mountain passes and stunning scenery. These mountains, often featured in the Giro d’Italia, will test your cycling ability and the breathtaking backdrop will spark your inner desire to challenge yourself and conquer these beautiful summits!
DOLOMITES
THE BEST MOUNTAINS OF EUROPE
Wilderness and the mountains blend to create vertical walls, sheer cliffs, and narrow long valleys. Cycle through a distinctive landscape of exceptional beauty, surrounded by nature and the Ladin culture. On the bike, the climbs will keep you focused, and off the bike you’ll be nestled among the idyllic small villages, pastures and fields of green in the valleys between the mountains.
PIEDMONT & LANGHE
TRUFFLE, BAROLO AND BARBARESCO WINE REGION
Birthplace of the ‘Slow Food’ movement and home to the Nebbiolo grape vineyards producing world renowned Barolo and Barbaresco wines. Ancient hilltop towns and castles, and trattorias serving local cuisine abound. While the food and wine are a highlight of Piedmont, the cycling is no less delightful with mountain climbs and picturesque rolling hills.
LAGO DI COMO
BELLAGIO, MURO DI SORMANO, GHISALLO
A dramatic landscape, where blue waters meet alpine foothills, which meet the blue sky. The village of Bellagio is world famous for its breathtaking views looking across the northern arm of the lake onto the Alps. Cycling here always includes a climbing pilgrimage to the patron saint of cyclists, the Madonna del Ghisallo.
TUSCANY
SIENA, CHIANTI AREA & SURROUNDINGS
An iconic region of Italy known especially for world famous Chianti wine production and beautiful terraced vineyard landscapes. Pastoral vistas of cypress dotted hills surround the quiet roads. The cycling experience is only enhanced by the occasional stop for a wine tasting or a lunch of local specialties.
PROSECCO HILLS
TREVISO & BASSANO DEL GRAPPA
A unique part of the Veneto region of Italy, known for its landscape, Prosecco wine, artistic culture and outdoor activities. The Prosecco hills were named a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of the blending of their steep, rugged slopes, worked by its people over time to create a mosaic like agricultural landscape. There is nothing like riding through this beautiful countryside, dotted with Palladian villas and the grand Monte Grappa in the southern background.
STRESA & LAGO MAGGIORE
UNDISCOVERED NEW CYCLING REGION
A favorite location of Ernest Hemingway (a Farewell to Arms is partially set in Stresa) with the Grand Hotel sitting majestically on Lake Maggiore. Stresa is known for its Borromeo Islands of Isola Bella, Isola Madre, Isola dei Pescatori and Isolino San Giovanni. The natural beauty of the lake, mountains and islands offer beautiful cycling through this historical area.
LAGO D’ISEO E FRANCIACORTA
“ITALIAN CHAMPAGNE” REGION
Home to Franciacorta wine and a quiet area that has retained some of its wilderness, Lake Iseo has beautiful beaches to visit and Monte Isola, a large island in the middle of the lake. The DOCG area for Franciacorta wine offers plenty of opportunities for winetasting. An interesting place to explore by bike and relax.
ADRIATIC COAST
MARCO PANTANI CYCLING HOME
Cesenatico, the birthplace of Marco Pantani, is the gateway to the spectacular Romagna region framed by the ocean and the Apennine mountains. Explore the routes where Italy’s much-loved champion trained through rolling hills and mountain passes. As you ride through ancient hilltop villages, the horizon opens to spectacular views of the Romagna, stretching all the way to the sea. If a more relaxed riding experience takes your fancy, rolling along the coast is a great way to experience one of the most popular holiday regions in Italy.
ROME & FIUGGI
THE “ANCIENT” BEUTY
Cycling in the heart of Italy, with the opportunity to visit the Colosseum and ancient Rome makes for a unique cycling holiday. Fiuggi, only 70 km on the south side of Rome, sits in the beautiful Roman countryside. A thermal spa city, at 600 m above the sea level, it is rich in forests, and the surrounding area offers many interesting villages with historic town centers. This region contains the wonderful landscapes of Monti Simbruini and the valley of the Sacco River.
